Tanzania has a world of trekking adventures waiting for you.
The most famous is Mt. Kilimanjaro, but there are others. Mt. Meru offers a great opportunity for an acclimatisation climb or as a stand-alone hike, or you could climb Oldonyo Lengai, an active volcano in Northern Tanzania.
Mt. Kilimanjaro

A staggering 5895m tall, Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa, and amazingly still accessible by foot. Due to the scale of the challenge, a good level of physical fitness is recommended to climb Kilimanjaro and any pre-existing medical conditions need to be considered.
Kilimanjaro has six primary routes to its peak:
Machame : The most popular trail, with the highest success rate for making it to the top. Beginning with a gentle day walking through rainforest, the altitude gradually increases as you progress towards the top. Machame also has the best protection from the weather or high winds.
Marangu: This is another popular trek which uses shared huts rather than camping. Some of you will find this more comfortable for sleeping, but beware it is less private, and the huts can become overcrowded during peak season. The summit of this route is also fairly difficult, with a high altitude increase.
Rongai: This route is popular amongst experienced climbers, offering a greater challenge than Marangu or Machame. It is also slightly more expensive due to transportation costs to and from the park entrance.
Shira: This is a combined route, taking it’s own path for a day before joining up with Machame for the rest of the climb. Although the overall distance is shorter than Machame, it is a lot steeper, which can be quite the shock for newcomers.
Lemosho: Rarely used due to the high price of getting to the entry gate, Lemosho is nevertheless extremely beautiful, and you can also include camping on the crater if you desire. After the second day, this route meets up with Shira and Machame.
Umbwe: An extremely strenuous walk up very steep paths. Recommended only for experienced climbers.
